YouTube Channel
When I was beginning my journey into the world of 2D art, there wasn’t as much content online as there is today. I found myself struggling to find people talking about the things that I was most focused on, and I had to go through a lot of hard learned lessons to get to where I am today. There were also close to zero female creators (sadly, this is the same to this day), and I found myself doubting if someone like me would even be welcome in the world of concept art.
At the same time, there were certain artists whose videos on YouTube were huge eye-openers. As a self taught artist I learnt almost everything I know from the likes of Level Up!, Bobby Chiu and his copious interviews, and various other creators. In an effort to repay the favour and perhaps make some of the things I struggled with a bit easier for others like me, I started creating videos too.
It’s always been a part time venture I only do when I have a bit of extra time and energy, but in spite of this I now have 82k subscribers and close to 4 million views across my videos.
Painting Process
Here I’m painting Nyx from Hades, a game I admire very much for it’s art direction. Because this is fanart done for fun, there’s no rigorous thumbnail stage - but the rest of the process is pretty representative of how I like to work.
Thoughts on growth
When I was getting started with art I didn’t have a community of artists around me, which I think is the case for a lot of people. The few art professionals who were on youtube speaking honestly about their art journey were a huge part of what kept me from feeling lost.
Now that I’m in a position where I have a lot of experience too, I do my best to share anything that might help artists struggling with what I used to struggle with myself. Putting these abstract thoughts into words helps me learn more too, which is a lovely bonus :)
